Actually, the view that the tram cost Labour the 2006 election in Ealing is one that is held within the Labour party itself locally and support for the scheme was dumped straightaway after the election. Obviously one issue wasn't the only factor - the massive waste of the Response programme was another - but the consensus seems to be the tram was the main one. Tory successes in holding on to some seats from 2006 may be down to the hardwork of individual Councillors or local factors you are unaware of. |
