Having posted the original message re trams, I am pleased that at least it produced a response although it is disappointing that many postings resort to abuse. I just think that the link between shepherds bush and Uxbridge needs something better than the exisitng bus service. I have travelled quite a lot and seen cities with modern tram networks, trolley buses and even, in Brisbane' excellent dedicated 'busways' which are in effect tramways without rails or wires. Cities such as Cologne buried their trams under the road in central areas and Amsterdam seems to run trams in streets far narrower than Hanwell. There are bottlenecks along the route where perhaps a bit of demolition is called for tramway or no tramway. There are also stretches where segregation of tram, bus, trolley would be possible. Just let's make a decision to do something. Just some backgroud information. I have lived in Ealing for 30 yeats. Last year |I sold up and moved to Leicester, my home town. Within three months I realised my mistake and poor public transport was a factor (long waits, old buses, no sunday service on localroutes etc} along with sky high parking charges. I moved back to Ealing. Public transport in London is very good and thanks must go to Ken Livingstone but it could be better. I do drive and do have a car which has averaged 4000 miles a year. This year I may have to give it up due to eyesight problems. I am not a tram 'hairy' just someone who feels that the problems of the Uxbridge Road have been allowed to fall off the table. |
