The protracted scandal of the tram scheme saga is not 'dead and buried' - as the emergence of this thread shows. Many of the local electorate have much longer memories than you give them credit for, and Ealing Labour Party's (and the wider London labour party's) behaviour throughout that disgraceful episode will not be forgotten or forgiven that easily. And your and some other Labourites' attitudes as expressed here shows why. The pattern of results in the most recent Council election is perhaps rather more 'baffling' in some respects - including the return from the politically dead, of the egregious Councillor Wall who played such a despicable role in the tram saga - than the previous election results. As regards other parts of London I can't comment in detail, but no doubt the Livingstone regime, backed by its little helpers at borough level, got up the noses of local voters in various ways just as much as here in the runup to the 2006 elections. |
