Robin, David has answered your questions on the biased nature of the poll more clearly than I could have done. On the question of whether the tram was decisive in the election I would suggest you ask your colleagues in the local Labour party. Every one of them that I have spoken to lays the blame for their unexpected defeat in 2006 squarely at the door of the tram. I think they are right. The consultation showed 80% opposition to the tram in the Acton area and would has always been a solid Labour area became largely Tory. Even South Acton which has a very high proportion of social housing was only held onto by a whisker in 2006. This time around all the seats were regained with ease. Nobody, of whatever political persuasion, who lives in the area would disagree that the tram was the major factor. |
