Living in South Ealing - is it not the case that the bus service is not very generous? So if we changed to trolleybuses would you use your car less? I sort of suspect not. So if you have a large or thirsty car or are a multiple car owner I think you should pay higher taxes - so as to persuade you that 25M+ cars on the road compared to when you were 21 needs a very long but concerted campaign to get you to use public transport more often than you do. Generally there are more buses on the roads than used to be the case and you do not normally as during the 1960s have to wait ages for a bus. The old trolleybus system meant that to a certain extent you had, as a car driver to get out of the way of trolley buses. Are you saying that modern Tbus systems would never require cars to get out of the way anymore than they do with ordinary Mbuses. You say Tbuses were comfortable. So were the Routemaster Mbuses - partly because they had much larger wheels and partly because they had better suspension and probably also had better breaking systems, all of which the young kid designers cannot appreciate as regards newer Mbuses. Are you saying that modern Tbuses will be as comfortable as the old ones? Frankly I would be surprised. I don't know why you make such an issue about additional bus shelters. There were hardly any 40 years ago and we managed. They are nice to have and should be expanded but gradually. I am surprised about some posts saying Mbuses are comfortable and not badly driven. I totally disagree. They were far better driven in the earlier times, - partly because they had better technology. But that's a management issue. |
