"engineering is still an excellent discipline for the go-ahead young mind" - sorry to have to say it, but in my long experience the discipline of civil engineering, at least, and in this country at least, both produces and attracts many of the most narrowminded, ignorant and socially and politically naive professionals in our society - I speak (or rather type) as a civil engineering graduate of long ago. And why on earth would you imagine state investment in railways would anoy me? - so long as it's in the right schemes, starting with essential access lifts at state-owned railway stations like Greenford. One of Nulabour's more monumental failures in its umpteen years of power has been to have perpetuated rather than reversed the crackpot national rail service privatisation. |
