"for most journeys at most times the time, uncertainty, discomfort and frustration of public transport travel far outweighs the marginal cost of using the car." I used to think that, and I drove over 30,000 miles a year before I retired and moved to London (from Reading). For journeys within London, unless I'm collecting something heavy, public transport is always the default for me, and I don't think that's eccentric or unusual. It reflects the quality of the public transport here, perhaps reinforcing your view that London gets more than its fair share of transport investment. |
