If rail routes are worth having then they are worth having wherever they may be. The gains from the Beeching Cuts were often swamped by the losses of through traffic because of losses of interconnecting routes. The railways lost far more because of freight transfer difficulties including theft from general freight. The problem now appears to be theft of infrastructure for scrap metal prices. |
