The truth is that the central London underground section of Xrail will be so hideously expensive that there's no money (nor the will) to do the job properly on the outer, surface sections of the route, which will just get inadequate minimalist botch-jobs on the existing lines and stations Xrail will use. This certainly applies to this borough but not just this borough. Xrail has been progressively watered down from the original scheme for services to Reading and Aylesbury, to just Maidenhead, thereby not even connecting directly with the longer distance mainline trains at Reading - Ealing could end up with even worse connections with those inter-city services than it has now. Local train service frequencies through Ealing will certainly not 'rocket', and will remain poorer than on most tube lines. And Xrail will take away the current through service on the Greenford branch. |
