I probably know more about London's railway history than you do. London has never suffered removal of 'huge' numbers of rail tracks, just a few scattered examples, in strong contrast to much of the rest of the country including our major metropolitan areas. London already has many cross-centre passenger rail links including several passing through and serving this borough. Xrail is a monstrously extravagant and unaffordable (but nevertheless seriously flawed and deficient) scheme which will not (contrary to its promoters' and enthusiasts' insistent claims) 'transform' access throughout London and the surrounding region, but will just make things a bit quicker and easier for some people in one particular corridor, while depriving the rest of the region and the country of cash for a whole host of desperately-needed improvements for generations to come. |
