The sort of places you are talking about, such as Ilkley (let alone 'near' Ilkley), are the equivalent of such as Marlow, Leatherhead or Risbro, which are also pretty quiet travelwise and otherwise ouitside the relatively short rush hours. What about the major cities and large conurbation towns? - which badly need much better than the sub-bog standard rail services they're mostly fobbed off with - eg Bradford-Manchester has worse quality trains and much sparser services even than the Greenford branch, and they're packed at busy periods. That's how the other half (or rather four fifths) are mostly forced to live in our major metropolitan areas and other cities away from London. |
