I opposed the tram and sorry peoples, but I totally favour the principle of Cross Rail. When I visit some major european cities which have cross rail, I always think how backward we are in modern transport facilities in London. For once, and this is rare I don't think Eric I accept what you are saying - that is about Canary Wharf. I have worked in many parts of London and I am perfectly convinced that with this new infrastructure that in time our journeys will be quicker and more efficient. In recent years I have met people desperate to find employment who go a very long way to their place of work. So Crossrail will help. also Crossrail in time will mean that TFL will create new links from Crossrail for getting to other places. You may know from the impenetrable ghastly Ealing website that a great number of Ealing residents use a car to go to work, and anything which encourages them to get off the roads will be much better in so many ways. However much we love bankers, even since Middlemarch and before, they have their uses for the community. If we had an influx of wealthier people coming back to the borough who work between Oxford Street and Canary Wharf, then the pound shops and other down market drabness would start to wane. Where Ealing needs to start being innovative (seemingly for them a very hard task)is to campaign vigorously for a substantial bus station in front of Ealing Broadway station, and for it to be integrated closely with CrossRail. 30 years ago Hammersmith was a disaster area. Now look at it. One might think that Ealing could take a leaf out of its close neighbour's book. |
