Polystyrene is invidious and a real pain. I now use rolled corrugated paper or popping corn as a biodegradeable alternative. There is a solution to polystyrene and that is to melt it into blocks for use as a dense building material or fuel for some furnaces (assuming thay have good fume control). The units used to do it are really only viable for commercial operators. DO NOT try to melt it down at home as the fumes are both noxious and potentially harmful. |
