Dear Mr Knox, We have indeed looked at this and have been open about it. Yes, there is likely to be a decrease in recycling of garden waste, it would be ridiculous for me to suggest otherwise. Having looked at what has happened in other boroughs we can expect an impact of 1% on the headline recycling percentage for Ealing, but we are working hard to ensure that other recycling goes up in order to mitigate this. We have also looked at what has happened in other boroughs in relation to fly-tipping of garden waste and there is no evidence of any such increase in those places. Whilst I appreciate that this is relative, our charges are also lower than other west London boroughs and we are offering each household an option of how to collect their garden waste. This should hopefully minimise the impact as much as possible. I am happy to answer any questions on this issue and will seek to get an FAQs page on Garden Waste charges for those who are interested too. Best wishes, Bassam |
