Idiots are idiots whether they be on foot, bicycle, driving car, taxi, bus, lorry, motorcycle - and any lawbreakers should be stopped. I do think, though, that there's a lack of clear thinking on bicycles. Cyclists stand out because there are relatively few of them - just take the blinkers off for a few minutes and look at the car choked streets of west London. So, while cyclists should stick to the highway code, I believe they are no more or less guilty than any other road using group of breaking it. In fact, a look at the pure stats says that a pedestrian is at far greater risk of death or serious injury from a motorised vehicle than from a bicycle. So while red light jumping cyclists may be a pain in the backside, they're hardly the threat to life and limb they're sometimes presented as. |
