Most cyclists are arrogant? No, I think that is not true. Rather, as a cyclist you learn that to survive on London roads you need to establish a strong physical presence on the road. Vehicles are a constant threat - through careless and thoughtless driving. I've been almost hit by a car or obstructed by a car on almost every bicycle journey I've made. And pedastrians can be as bad. They step out into the road without looking. They do not understand the highway code. A good example is at zebra crossings. Most people do not realise the purpose of the zig-zag lines is not just about parking - its about informing the driver or cyclist when they should stop. If you are already travelling within the lines when a pedastrian arrives at the crossing, you do not need to stop. And don't get me started on pedastrians walking along cycle lanes. Do they think the green bit of the pavement is more attractive? A bit more balance on this thread would be good. Not all cyclists behave well, but equally many pedastrians are clueless. |
