An excellent response by the Mayor there. Reading some of the comments above proves that you don't have to come far out of Central London to find people with small minded provincial attitudes, however I thought that it would have been more than 6 miles. If we are tarring cyclists with the same brush, then accept that to some cyclists all car drivers are either speeding kids in suped up corsa's doing 70 in a 30 zone or school run mums in big 4X4s parking on the pavement or on the double yellow lines. I live on one of the closed roads and I think I will live with it in the same way people live with events like the Marathon or the Nottinghill carnival, by enjoying and participating in a local event. Are the people of Ealing so small minded that they can't even stand for a few cyclists to take to the street, I doubt any of them are going to do a Paula Radcliffe and take a dump outside their house, or make like a Nottinghill festival goer and take drugs and stab people outside in their garden. |
