Why not lighten up and go along and see what you think? You might even enjoy it. Roads are closed for many reasons: carnivals; roadworks; boat race; duff bridges; water leaks; protest marches. this is one day of change, of a different perspective. We don't hypothecate taxes nor (in theory at least) give more votes or a louder voice to any one person or group paying more in tax than another so that seems a poor arguement. If you pay a higher rate tax or Capital Gains tax, does that mean your wishes should be taken into account more than someone who pays little or none? That's not how a parliamentary democracy works is it? So arguing that car drivers should have more consideration because they - in these circumstances - pay more tax doesn't really make sense. And even if you wanted to use the tax argument, surely you would have to offset the costs to society of motoring: the pollution, the noise, the use of scarce natural resources. Cycling does none of those things. PS yes I am a motorist as well. |
