Does he look after your basic knowledge of the legal situation of road vehicles in the UK, a matter of widespread public knowledge? Indeed, so widespread is the knowledge you can even get T-shirts for cyclists pointing out that they do pay 'road tax', since it comes out of general taxation and indeed council tax for borough-maintained roads. For that matter cyclists pay as much VED as a comparable car, since very low or zero emission vehicles are zero-rated, and a bicycle is about as low emission as you can get. All in all it's one of these absurdly persistent right wing victim myths, like most of the whinges of the petrolhead lobby who seem to think they and only they should be pandered to and indulged. It needs to stop, it's pathetic. |
