Sorry - have to disagree with you there, please provide source of the stat about MS running costs vs Open Source...says who ? And as for the last statement - absolute rot. A completely different underlying OS will require significant training to get completely up to speed as an administrator and some as a end user. Training costs for this will be a significant cost, even spread over a period of time. It has been shown that users offered the option of a Windows OS to use vs Open source have tried the Open Source and then gone back to Microsoft. Example - look at the uptake of netbooks and the offered OS. The majority are now sold with Windows XP due to peoples unfamiliarity and lack of comfort with Linux. I'm not saying MS are perfect - far from it - but statements about how great Open source is without a realistic assessment of the costs to switch to this and the associated issues are pointless. |
