No - its not the users fault - except when the users are supposed to be IT experts in the systems they install and maintain. There are a lot of "MS Experts" out there - I would (and do) question any MS expert that installs an maintains a system that crashes a lot - this is simpy rubbish. I hope you aren't paying for this! MS software is stable - I've worked in environments of hundreds of MS servers and on the whole most issues were due to poor configuration. It does require some IT knowledge of the innards of Windows to get them set up right - but there are a lot of good sysadmins out there who will do the job right. A well maintained current windows system will be very stable - I would suggest your MS expert isn't doing a great job. I think you are now agreeing with me - the outsourced service should be better. Both the council and Serco have some hand in this problem and need to address it in such a way that it doesn't happen again - but this isn't a recipe for completely changing the IT systems. |
