I suggest we are boring people to death here and far from my wanting the last word here it does amaze me the missionary zeal that MS apologists exhude. The point of the issue is what the poster wants to make the point. I've dealt with the way MS 'creates' software and it's frightening. It's a frenzy of undocumented code that the marketeers, at some point - when it seems to work - decide to 'name' and release. It's released as a beta to 1,000s of MS users who attempt to debug it for MS. Then documenters (yes after the event) write up the specification of the software! Don't put down the 'lad who was on work experience from school last week'. There are many brilliant self taught programmers, and I've met and worked with some of them. Also there are still University Computer Science departments still teaching 4GLs and who are still in denial about object technology. So not all Computer graduates are well taught/mentored. My final shots: Microsoft has been the single biggest barrier to the advancement in software development processes and secure software since the first stored programme ran in 1948. Microsoft does not champion writing scalable, secure, maintainable software - it champions making money. And it's very good at the latter, even though it breaks the law here and there. |
