It is not much use complaining that the system is awful when it is running on a Microsoft platform. I have tried very hard to get help from Ealing to introduce new users to a Unix compatible system but hit a wall of total ignorance. We had a professional lecturer ready to give a series of talks on equivalent systems, and spent over a year trying to educate Ealing Adult Learning, but he has given up and accepted a new job in New Zealand. We have had other offers of help, so could still get something together, but Ealing have told us that they will not tolerate anything apart from Microsoft on their system. They appear oblivious to the fact that the entire Internet is a Unix compatible system, and Microsoft had to introduce modifications to their system to allow it to communicate with the Internet. Many larger organizations run Unix compatible systems for stability, security, and reliability, as well as total cost. It does not require a total instant switch, changes could be introduced as and when replacements were fully ready and fully tested. |
