| If they lose funding it’s their own fault for taking the shilling in the first place. Bell ‘took advantage of Covid’ to install these schemes where they weren’t needed or, as it now clearly shows, wanted. They were sold as Covid measures and to avoid ‘future rat running’ despite zero evidence that there was an issue with that in most places. Bell is still pulling strings in his role with TfL and no doubt enjoying making life uncomfortable for Mason. And what do they need transport funding for? Cycle schemes that 99 percent of the local population don’t use. I’m sure the ample surplus from parking fees and fines will continue to fund that regardless of Gilligan (whose power is way beyond his unelected position). They’ve just increased the short hours CPZ charges without advertising the fact, even though there’s no logical reason to do so. Mason is equally culpable in all this. He was an active advocate of LTNs from the outset. He deserves no sympathy because he and the rest of them are simply playing politics. As they always do. |
