Will this £40 actually be paying for it? Many people just won't use it. It may well be needed to pay the extra landfill charges. There are alternatives. I wish Ealing would subsidise wormeries as well as compost bins (are they still)? In Devon I noticed that people started putting their garden waste in the new wheelie bins instead of composting it as they always had in the past. I bet that change in behaviour increased the recycling rate. Generally there's more space for wheelie bins there. They are though unnecessarily large, smelly, ensure long noisy collections and do nothing to encourage a reduction in waste. |
