Phil, One point you clearly make is that these closures are being made to make a point. we cannot argue that the costs are high. but that will be the back office costs that need investigation. The making a point appears to be the whole policy of the Bell corporation. Close Albert Dane to get cash. Hitting the vulnerable was the first thing that was done. no recruitment freeze for higher paid. But Lizzie makes a good point that Volunteering should be used to enhance services. The danger is that we replace people who need the jobs with people that can afford to do them for free. This affects the whole economy as what we save on the one hand is paid out in benefits. That would be a barmy policy if we look at the holistic view of the economy. maybe volunteers as investment bankers would be a better move. |
