In my opinion 38p per day is a good deal, especially when compared to storing anything else in a public place. I can't think of anything even comparable. Some people pay more for storing their emails. Many people complain about 'narrow streets' with not enough space for vehicles to pass, but they are not narrow, simply blocked on either side by empty vehicles. I think that's a problem which cheap storage rates does nothing to solve. From a purely personal perspective, the introduction of CPZ is just one of the factors that made me re-evaluate the logistics of owning a car. I sat down and worked out it wasn't worth it financially. Of course that doesn't apply to all, but it was certainly a nudge that made me think differently. I also find it bizarre that people get upset by the introduction of the odd bike hangar, which can store six bikes in the space of one car. Maybe that's a topic for another discussion, although I do think it's relevant in the grander scheme of how we use and pay for public space. |
