| There weren't so many cars owned or leased per family and per building in the past. Pedestrians and cyclists didn't wear the exoskeletons of metal that people in cars wear surrounding them with the space which takes up so much more space on the roads and paths - and so are more vulnerable when moving from place to place. The Highway Code names and protects pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders as being more vulnerable and gives them priority as they are not only more vulnerable but also generally include more people of all ages and vulnerabilities actively travelling unlike other road users. This will be noted if and when they are involved in traffic accidents. |
