All, In Dec last year I was overcharged for my journey from Liverpool St to Ealing Broadway. The oyster card was presented at both entry ans exit (no open gates for me to forget) and the barriers opened once I had presented the card. It was only when I noted the next day that my credit was significantly reduced did I check my balance and discovered the overcharge. The problem is - the system is not foolproof and it seems the problem has been known for a while by the operators of Oyster. What is the difficulty in putting in a system that doesn't penalise the customer for a fault in the operators system ? The main reason they I can see is that they would lose a small amount in not getting the correct fare whereas they currently charge for mistakes caused by their faulty equipment making the presumption of guilt/culpability on the ordinary traveller. Most people are unfairly being penalised by this imperfect system and the profit of this is going into the operators pockets. |
