I don't understand why anyone claims it is a "ripoff". It's a hugely convenient system, and if you don't 'get your ticket clipped' on the way out of the station, i.e. tap in, then it has to assume you went to the maximum distance. Otherwise what is to stop people aactually *going* the maximum distance, and then saying "oh, I got off in Zone 2 but I just didn't tap the reader on the way out"? Where there are mechanical errors (i.e. someone's card doesn't get read properly), they seem to be very rare, and if you think there's been an error then it's very easy to check. Where is the rip off, exactly? Rip off implies deliberate fraud. |
