| "those who voted otherwise should accept it and shut up" As someone else pointed out, I think you've missed the point of democracy. Yes, those in the majority win, but there also must be an opposition! There must be a dissenting voice to ensure those representing the majority are held to account to the very people who voted for them; the majority! Otherwise you just end up with some of mass-dictatorship or authoritarianism. My point was that 51.9% is a laughable majority and provides no clear mandate. As you can tell I'm 100% Remain, I view leaving the EU instead of remaining and campaigning for reform as a fundamental de-evolution of Humanity (not to mention an embarrassing throwing-the-toys-out-the-cot exercise) BUT If the result was reversed, 51.9% voted remain, I would EXPECT the debate to leave to continue on and on given that, as I said, such a margin is laughable and provides no mandate either way. It would be nothing short of the Duty of Leave's leadership to present an opposition! (as much as I'd hate to ever see Farage on my TV again). |
