This is a profoundly anti-democratic point of view. People who didn't vote in the election may not have done so because they felt they had insufficient understanding of the issues to reach a decision either way. It is quite logical for them to have changed their views in the light of events and changing circumstances. There is overwhelming evidence from polling that people who didn't vote in the referendum now would vote and would chose to remain in the EU by a substantial majority. If your answer to my original question is that we should not respond to a clear change in the will of the people because many of the people who have changed their view forfeited the right to ever having a say due to not participating in the referendum, that is a profoundly weak and unconvincing argument. |
