| Yes Europe has been in trouble since the Euro was foisted on people. the edges of Europe have seen the people punished for the sins of their leaders. Goldman Sachs and Merkel have administered punishment to the Greek people and in Portugal, Spain and the Mediterranean coasts we have seen a rise in poverty and problems. The central area of Europe grows in power and the people in the centre resent subsidising the so called feckless poor of the south. The rise of extremism is the consequence of the Euro eliminating economic fluidity. The Euro meant that manufacturing became uneconomic in Portugal as it was saddled with German level costs. Much of the economic strength of Britain came by being in Europe but not in the Euro. I voted remain but see there are inherent dangers within the so called European Project. Greater integration will lead to an elite running from the centre giving out crumbs for the regions. The Populist politics of the new right will tap into this very easily. Colin makes some sound points. The issue we have is that our Brexit is being managed by a bunch of clowns who don't care about the people who voted leave. why did people vote leave? the same reason they voted for Trump in america? because they wanted to kick the political classes who have betrayed them. |
