| The polls over the last year are pretty consistent the majority now support Remain not due to anyone changing their minds but because the previously undecided would now vote Remain. I also think Andy is right that a lot of 'shy remainers' are telling pollsters they'll vote Leave but should the day ever come they will do the opposite. I don't see any strong argument that leaving the EU can still safely be said to reflect the 'will of the people'. It was always fairly ambiguous and it clearly has changed. However, neither main political party seem willing to accept this so I think the person who says the Norway option is the only way forward. This means an option that nobody is really satisfied with and actually delivers us no real benefits and lots of costs. However, it could be seen as the first baby step towards a true Brexit if the British people subsequently express their will that this is the direction in which they wish to travel. If they don't then rejoining the EU would be far less complex than if we had already departed the single market and Customs Union. |
