Gerry, you are right the Normans had certain strengths. Both Norman Wisdom and Norman Vaughan made me laugh. Norman Hunter was an accomplished and unashamedly dirty footballer. Norman Mailer wrote a great book about Muhamed Ali/Cassius Clay. Back to the Walpole Park pond. We have a rare version today - that of one pretty much completely empty of water. Maybe this was the Sir John Soane version in the early days when he had just dug it out. Still I'm sure the £millions of Lottery money plus the £1 million development tax on St George for Dickens Yard will fill the pond with running water once more sometime before I die. |
