I wonder if the re-furbishment of Walpole Park includes bring the fountains up to a standard where they are in line with current health and safety guidelines. In particular, non potable water used for horticultural or agricultural purposes shoudl, by law, be carried in black plasitc pipes so that it is easily distinguished from potable (i.e. drinking quality water) which should be carried in blue plastic pipes. The fountains use blue MDPE medium density polyethylene, not black (clearly visible through the water). What is more, the pipe used is not suitable for being used under a foot or two of water - it is only meant to be used buried under soil as the ultraviolet light present in sunlight degrades it over time and it becomes brittles and will disintegrate. So whoever refurbished those fountains (and whoever supervised and signed off on it) ripped us off! |
