Veolia is an organisaton worth knowng about to understanding how Ealing works. Before it was re-branded as Veolia is was called Cardinal, and before it was rebranded as Cardnal it was known as Brown and Root Technical Services (BRETS) which assumed control over the previous activities of Ealing Council's Technical Services Department (laying pavements, collecting rusbbish, operating dumps). It was always been a contractor of Ealing Council for a large slice of contracted work due to moral blackmail on the part of Veolia/Cardnal to the union-centric Labour Party which has "feather bedded" at least one large contract to them when in power in Ealing Council. From this perspective it can do no wrong. In this was there has never been true competition or even selection on merit or past performance for some of the contrators which has lead to poor quality work and responsiveness as the Labour Group helps out their wronged (privatised) buddies with work. The two Veolia employees that you saw "having a fag" were probably the same two that I saw sitting in their truck in Maytree Park most of the day when that was being cleaned up a month or so ago. Veolia is owned by an American multinational which is where the profits end up. For a long time it has owned by Halliburton (the US contractor that was formerly run by forner US Vice President Dick Chenie that was given $90 to re-build Iraq! I am not sure who owns it now but I am pretty certain its American). Unfortunately the Labour Group in Ealing has never been keen on transparency as it grinds away at its Marxist agenda behind closed doors. |
