The ponds in Walpole Park are quite dead so nothing the Council Events Department/Ealing Festival can do can make it worse. On Saturday there was only one fountain working in the main pond and there was no evidence of fish or other life in the main pond. The wishing pond by the manor was also bereft of greenery and fish, as was the pond in the sunken garden. To give credit where credit is due a black bag of rubbish in the main pond that I reported to a park ranger in Walpole Park on Thursday afternoon had been removed by Saturday, however, what can one man do on his own? There have been no fish since last year's fetival disaster and I can but wonder why the fish were not restored from the Ealing Festival Budget? Mr Leach, have you heard anything from Mr Keith Townsend the Executive Director for the Environment with Ealing Council? Is he going to do anything about the dead ponds and the missing fish? Oh, and this 4.2 million from the lottery fund, will it sort the ponds out? Max D. |
