Walpole Park does look sad and neglected. Our flagship park of the borough should be in better nick - the fountains should be repaired pronto methinks. Not so that jumbled pile called Pitzhanger Manor. It may have looked handsome when Sir John Soane designed and built it in 1800(or so), but sebsequent worthy aldermen, councillors and CEOs of the borough have variously added to it over decades, so it looks a haphazard hotchpotch of disparate styles - a horlicks of a building now - it shouldn't have precious Heritage Grant funding wasted on refurbishing the mess. By all means repair the pond and fountains, but leave Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery to fade away to outer darkness methinks. |
