All interesting stuff Chris, but back at Faith's house she is still nowhere nearer to resolving the issue. When backing up, the original OS WOULD be an issue, ever tried using a large capacity USB flash drive or an external hard drive on a Win 98 machine? If it's a really old machine, you may not be able to boot using the CD drive, it may not even have one. Good point that Faith would want to see the disk being erased, but my point was that how long will this take? You're looking at a couple of hours at least which is OK if you're a hobbyist but not so good if you do it to pay your bills. Question to Faith now, do you have the original disks that came with the machine? Sometimes called a System Restore disk. You could run that once you've backed up all your data, this will restore it to its factory defaults overwriting yuor stuff in the process. Simple and easy solution (if you have it!) |
