Cllr Gulaid actually did a three minute party political broadcast which was totally irrelevant to what was being discussed and the Chair allowed it. I asked what work the council had done to deliver savings from sharing procurement and service costs with other boroughs, to see if the savings possible here might have allowed the council to keep the Albert Dane centre open or save some of the rangers and the chair said that was irrelevant and he wouldn't allow the officers to answer the question. It looks like very little work has been done here because it won't suit officers to follow this path. Cllr Eyvonne Johnson told me she would tell me in private what they were doing. Lucky me. I still haven't heard anything Scrutiny in ealing is pretty hopeless at the moment. I agree Phil that we worked hard to get the decision overturned with the one Lib Dem on the committee but I can't help but think that the fact that so many members of the public had spoken affected the chair. If no one was there, the whole thing would have been waved through regardless of how hard we would have worked or what arguments we would have made. The final decision will be made in the privacy of the cabinet members room, where I suspect they will still force it through |
