The difficulty is that Councillors are guided by officers and so the officers will make cuts to keep themselves in jobs. on Big Dave's ideas to get long term unemployed back into work by doing manual work will be seen by councils as a godsend. Get rid of all the low paid and then get people to do the same work for free. It all adds up. When you see the cuts in social care, very well some portfolio holders may be pretty poor and also lacking in care for the vulnerable. I also feel that whether Labour or Conservative in power much of the apparatus will carry on in it's own inneficient way. Sadly we meet many good people who become counsillors however those fine people generally never seem to get the real power to change things. Stitched up and hands tied by poor briefing!! |
