Peter, I hope you weren't depending on the Gazette to get the truth for you. You can't depend on overview and scrutiny either. I was a member of the overview and scrutiny committee that considered the closure of the Albert Dane centre and Links, and also the laying off of the rangers. I asked what work officers and the cabinet had done to share services and procurement costs with other authorites and was told by the chair of overview and scrutiny that my question wasn't relevant. He wouldn't allow the officers to answer my question. If they had done that piece of work first, they might have achieved enough savings to allow them to keep the Albert Dane centre open, or to keep the rangers. Julian Bell did give an interesting response to a question that i asked. I asked why did he put out a leaflet in Hobbayne ward in April promising to increase the ranger numbers if they were elected. He said that their manifesto was based on Gordon Brown winning the general election. So everything they do now is he wants us to believe not his fault, but the Coalitions fault and he feels no obligation at all to deliver the manifesto he stood on. He never said any of this in his manifesto |
