Hi Ben I don't think that Hobbayne or Elthorne are the most affluent parts of the borough, so the link between afflunece and recycling argument won't stack up there. The argument about what kind of property you live in will determine how easy it is does apply, but isn't a huge factor. If you look at the table, you will see that some of the wards that are not performing as well as Hobbayne, are not covered in flats that make recycling more difficult, like Perivale, which didn't do too badly or some of the Southall wards, which did very badly. If you travel round Southall, you will see lots of terraced and semi detached houses which do not present the problems you describe Ben. I may not have made it very clear Ben at the beginning, but Elthorne and Hobbayne share the £20k, so we only get £10k each. Somehow we both had exactly 72.7% participation rates. As far as my opinion is concerned Ben, I think that spending £30k promoting this scheme, then spending another £80k on prize money that will not be spent on increasing recycling rates in the borough is a mistake. The goals of the scheme were admirable, the way they went about it was daft. they could have used the £110k to do a door knocking campaign in the poorest performing wards as we did a few years back instead of spending all that money on a gimmick. Moiras comments are understandable. I suspect that Moira is fed up of being told how irresponsible she is being by people who want to manage every aspect of how she lives her life. |
