| You could not make this up! Thames water have threatened legal action on Ealing council having sent snitches to see if allotment holders are using hosepipes to water vegetable and fruit plants. Allotment holders have observed a ban on hosepipe use per say for a very long period but this time Thames Water have got nasty. They are aiming at the elderly and less able members of society. This is a major part of later life for a great many and older folk make up the backbone of many allotment sites. Those who have a long walk from water supplies have their own water reserves replenished by a long hose saving 30 or 40 time consuming returns to the main supply. It is a fair and simple task and allows plot holders to carry own doing what they love. Needless to say they cannot prove whether the hoses are connected to a main supply or a plot holders rainwater tank (which is common) Water Companies seem to think this will save water! They must be either plain stupid, naive or riddled with 30 something lawyers and smarties who think food only comes from Waitrose. Of course, tired old bones carting dozens of buckets of water will no doubt cause spillages a plenty. This is an ageist and dicriminatory policy against the older and less able members of our "Big' Society and Ealing Council along with others should be ashamed in not standing up to the bullying and deceptive methods of Thames water and others. Thin end of the wedge, what next restrict shopping and travel hours for old people? |
