| Water charges are included in the rent and the reciepts for that are quite sizeable in perspective. In your domestic water rates, only a small part is actually for water. The rest is for sewage, sewage treatment and infrastructure like drainage and domestic supply pipeage. None of those apply to allotments as none are provided. Even the water supply is minimal. If you are paying £20 a month for just water then you are paying more then most as my domestic bill for a 5 bed house works out at less then £20 for the whole lot and considerably less if it is broken down to just the water aspect. So Mr Brandt is in a way correct, if you pay for your domestic water at home you pay and if you happen to have an allotment you pay via the rent for just the water. Water useage on allotments is always very carefully managed by the more diligent plot holders and considerably less than is used in many back gardens where sprinklers and hoses are the norm, often left on for hours at a time. Don't see Thames water threatening them with action. |
