Many years ago I had an allotment. Unfortuantely I am too unwell to be able to do that now. I have had to accept that there are some things that I can no longer do. I would put it to you that the people complaining about the difficulties of not using hosepipes are allotment pseuds. What finally drew the line for me on allotment gardening was not the watering (most veg grows happily without watering once established or else we wouldn't have much to eat in the shops!), it was the shear effort involved in digging over ten square poles each winter with a fork and then the continual weeding throughout the year. I would suspect that anyone who can dig over a normal sized allotment by hand can water by hand. If womeone cannot dig over their allotment then what are they doing on it? I would suggest they are growing sheds weeds and grass and not veg! |
