Taxing my memeory here. We moved into Bloomsbury Housing Society Ltd, Acton in late 1973 and left just over 5 years later. Our not unreasonable rent paid our share of services; some of the Housing Corporation mortgage; and some of another mortgage. After 5 years of renting we could move out and get 50% of the increase in value of the property. This turned out to be around 5,000 which we used as the deposit on a house in Northfields - purchase price £24,000. This is exactly as the Government legislation setting up Housing Societies was supposed to work,. Was this kind of deal ever available with Housing Associations - then or now? |
