I rent my property and I live in it. If I went away for a period of time I wouldn't expect squatters to move in because a) I am still living in it, and intend to do so in the near future and b) There are far nicer places to squat in! The Town House is a good example of a space that was not previously lived in which has now become abandoned for a number of reasons (economic climate, council closures). There is no new tenant in the pipeline, and as far as I know it is going to be redeveloped as flats eventually. I'm certain that the squatters will be out as soon as whoever owns the property gets their act together to redevelop it. The onus, at this point, is on the developers to do so, however. I have looked in the windows and as far as I can see, there is no damage inside (well you wouldn't s**t on your own doorstep would you?). So I don't think the idea of damage that you state is necessarily 'invariable'. I quite like their sign - one person's tacky can be pleasant to others (why do you think people watch Strictly Come Dancing et al?). Wouldn't it be great if they transformed it into a community centre (which Ealing so desperately needs in its centre)? There are great examples of where this has happenned with great success - see http://s208303316.websitehome.co.uk/. |
