I doubt many pupils at Fielding are driven there. Its catchment is very local. Most pupils will walk there, as they do to most primary schools in Ealing. Where there is an issue is with working parents who have to take their children to school and hand them over (which is a requirement for all children below Year 6) and then pick them up in the afternoon. Time pressures are a factor. Not everyone has a leisurely work from home lifestyle. As for the claims that school streets help fight obesity, that’s debatable. It’s more to do with food than exercise. |
